Iona Firouzabadi is a graduate of the National Film & Television School MA programme in Cinematography. Her films have been shown at international festivals - including BAFTA and AMPAS accredited Edinburgh, Flickers' Rhode Island, Austin, Aesthetica and Dubai and at Film4 Fright Fest. She is experienced at shooting a range of formats across digital acquisition, 16mm and 35mm film.
At NFTS Iona studied under Brian Tufano BSC (Trainspotting, Billy Elliot), Sean Bobbitt BSC (Hunger, The Place Beyond the Pines, 12 Years a Slave) and Nina Kellgren BSC (Solomon & Gaenor). Her graduation animation Fulfilament was nominated for a 2016 Royal Television Society Award. In 2015 Iona was selected by Alan Parker (Mississippi Burning, The Commitments) to shoot and direct a commercial for the national Kodak NAHEMI competition. In 2016 she shot 11 short films across the UK, Europe and North Africa for Shakespeare's Globe Theatre/BBC iPlayer. In 2017 Film London produced her first short film as writer, In Wonderland, starring Louise Brealey (Sherlock) and Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who) and in 2019 Film London/BFI Network are funding her second short as writer, Martha. In 2018 she co-shot the 90min feature doc School for Stammerers for ITV, which has been nominated for Best Single Documentary at the 2019 Television BAFTAs.
Prior to film school she worked in documentary television and ran her own small company making promos. Iona also has a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University and has studied storyboarding at Central St Martins. She is based in London and is a member of Illuminatrix Rising.
