Iona’s writing is driven by strong visuals and female stories. Her first original TV pilot has been optioned by The Forge and is in development. Iona is also developing film and TV work with the directors Henry Blake and Christopher Haydon. She is currently writing on a new series for The Lighthouse/Sky Atlantic, TX 2024.

In Wonderland, her first short film as writer, was developed and funded by Film London and Southern Exposure, through London Calling 2017. It screened around the world and in 2018 it won Best Short Film at Vail Film Festival (USA), Best Film at Exit 6 Film Festival (UK) and Best Drama at the BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival (UK). It was long-listed for the 2019 BAFTA for Best Short Film. Her second short, Martha, was awarded a development bursary from B3 Media - an organization dedicated to promoting people of colour in British film. Martha was further developed and funded by Film London and BFI Network. In 2019 it received its premiere at the 63rd London Film Festival. In 2020 it was in official competition at the Oscar qualifying festivals Flickers’ Rhode Island (USA), In the Palace (Bulgaria), LA Shorts (USA) and Foyle (Northern Ireland), amongst others. It has since garnered nearly a million views on the selective short film platform Omeletto and was one of their most successful films of 2021. In 2019/20 Iona was commissioned by the leading drama school LAMDA to write four short films for their graduates and in 2020/21 Iona was a Film London Lodestar.

Iona is a graduate of the National Film & Television School (MA in Cinematography) and has a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University. As a director of photography Iona’s work screened internationally and she was a founding member of Illuminatrix Rising, a collective of female cinematographers. Prior to film school Iona worked as a shooting director in promos and prime time factual television.
